Welcome To Our International Shotokan Karate

Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art characterized by deep stances, powerful linear strikes, and dynamic movements, founded by Gichin Funakoshi. The name "Shotokan" means "Pine Waves Hall," derived from Funakoshi's pen name, Shoto. Training focuses on kihon (basics), kata (pre-arranged forms), and kumite (sparring), with an emphasis on physical and mental discipline, respect, and the development of character over aggression.

Founder

Gichin Funakoshi, a master from Okinawa, is known as the "father of modern karate".

Origin

Shotokan originated in Okinawa and was introduced to mainland Japan in the early 20th century.

Dojo Name

The term "Shotokan" was coined by Funakoshi's students to name his dojo, derived from his pen name "Shoto" (pine waves) and "kan" (hall).
